On September 6, BILA member Shelagh McGregor was honoured at the Edmonton Bar Association’s Annual Judges’ Dinner in Edmonton, AB as the recipient of the 2018 Eileen Nash Memorial Award.
According to the Eileen Nash Memorial Award criteria, “the purpose of this fund is to recognize the efforts of individuals providing services on a pro bono basis so as to benefit our community by providing support for those charities and charitable causes that will enhance the quality of living for underprivileged people in the Edmonton area.”
Shelagh has worked tirelessly over the course of the past decade to ensure that each of her clients receives top-tier guidance throughout the litigation process, and has dedicated her career to assisting families in Alberta affected by birth injury and medical malpractice.
“Most of my clients have never been involved in a lawsuit in their lives. Making the decision to sue somebody is not easy, but I feel quite lucky to assist people in making that decision and guiding them through litigation if that is what they choose to do.”
Shelagh received $5,300 to be given to the charity of her choice, which is the iHuman Youth Society in Edmonton, where she serves as a board member and organizer of the Kick It Up fundraiser for iHuman’s program for young mothers and their babies.
Open to all youth, iHuman organizes programming for young people (12-24 years old) that encourages positive personal development, a sense of belonging and community, and creating opportunities to contribute to positive social change.
